VIJAYAWADA: The Centre has responded positively to Andhra Pradesh’s proposals to strengthen the state’s cultural infrastructure and has assured that an official circular approving the initiatives will be issued within a month, tourism minister Kandula Durgesh said on Friday.

During the second day of his visit to New Delhi, Durgesh met Union Culture secretary Vivek Agarwal and submitted five long-pending proposals aimed at boosting the state’s cultural sector. He said the Centre had responded favourably and promised to accord priority to the proposals.

The proposals include establishing a regional centre of the National School of Drama at Rajamahendravaram, an Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) centre in Andhra Pradesh, a regional centre of the Lalit Kala Akademi, a state-of-the-art Kalakshetra Auditorium at GVR Government College of Music and Dance in Vijayawada, and a regional centre of the Sahitya Akademi in Kadapa.

Durgesh said the Centre’s assurance to issue formal orders within a month would give a major boost to artists and cultural organisations across the state. He said the initiatives would strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s cultural heritage and revive its artistic traditions.

The minister thanked the Centre for its positive response and reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting Andhra Pradesh’s cultural legacy.

Earlier, Durgesh attended the second day of the Faith Tourism Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, where he showcased the state’s tourism potential before national and international delegates and investors.

He also visited the Andhra Pradesh Tourism pavilion and invited domestic and international investors to partner in tourism projects in the state.

Special chief secretary (Tourism) Ajay Jain accompanied the minister and made a presentation on investment opportunities, highlighting the state’s investor-friendly policies and tourism infrastructure.
