Chittoor railway station is being developed at a cost of around Rs 31 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with plans to provide modern passenger facilities, including escalators, lifts, air-conditioned waiting halls and improved parking.
K. Satyanarayana, senior divisional commercial manager of the Guntakal railway division, announced this during the Jan Samvad programme at the station on Thursday. He interacted with passengers, passenger association representatives, Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee members and Chamber of Commerce representatives.
Satyanarayana said the programme aimed to assess passenger amenities, cleanliness, parking and other infrastructure facilities at railway stations. Suggestions and requests from passengers and local organisations would be forwarded to divisional and zonal officials for consideration, he said.
Under the Amrit Bharat scheme, the station would have improved parking and sanitation facilities, escalators, lifts, foot overbridges, air-conditioned waiting halls, retiring rooms and lounges.
Satyanarayana said passengers had also sought a direct train service from Chittoor to Chennai. Satyanarayana said he would forward the demand to higher authorities and seek its examination at the zonal headquarters.
