CPM Raghavulu Objects To Private Enumerators In Census 2027

CPI (M) politburo member B.V. Raghavulu on Thursday opposed Central government’s reported plan to engage private individuals as enumerators for Census 2027. He expressed fears that the move could affect the authenticity of data.

Addressing a media conference at CPM office in Nalgonda, Raghavulu alleged that the proposal of BJP-led government is only to involve RSS members in the Census exercise. He pointed out that the data collected during Census of India is used by several international organisations for various purposes. Any compromise of the census’ credibility could affect India’s standing globally.

Reacting to burning of a replica of a cockroach along with an effigy of Ravanasura during Dasara celebrations in New Delhi, the CPM politburo member said cockroaches played an important role in ecosystems, a fact documented in several books. Medical students studied anatomy through dissection, including that of cockroaches.

Raghavulu expressed concerns over the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, alleging that it could affect the interests of southern states. He said that if constituencies were reorganised based on population, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu could face injustice, while the number of constituencies in northern states could increase.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech on national integrity in New Delhi, Raghavulu questioned whether changes in the number of Lok Sabha constituencies that disadvantaged southern states would serve that objective. He alleged that BJP’s political intentions behind delimitation could threaten national integrity.

Earlier, the CPM leader inspected withering paddy crops at Cherlapally in Nalgonda district and interacted with farmers. He requested the central and state governments to provide financial assistance to farmers who have been unable to recover even their cultivation costs because of adverse weather conditions.

Those present at the press conference included CPM leaders Julakanti Ranga Reddy and Thummala Veera Reddy.
