Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about Mizzou Football

The SEC Wednesday night injury report was released for Saturday’s pivotal game between No. 18 Mizzou vs No. 7 Texas (11:00 a.m. CST on ESPN).

It’s a clear injury report on Missouri’s side other than three players listed as out. Meanwhile, Texas is pretty banged up. Four players on the Longhorns have officially listed as out — highlighted by running back Hollywood Smothers. Edge rusher Colin Simmons — who leads the SEC with 10.5 sacks — is listed as questionable.

Two of Texas’ top 3 wide receivers are also questionable — featuring Auburn transfer Cam Coleman and St. Louis native Ryan Wingo.

Here’s the full initial injury report:

All five of Mizzou’s starters finished with double-digit scoring numbers, while Jason Crowe and and Toni Bryant were fantastic in their debuts

Big time debuts from Crowe and Bryant. Mizzou Hoops is going to be FUN to watch.

The math is pretty simple. A 10-2 finish gets Mizzou in. A 9-3 finish requires a win over Texas and a lot of help, potentially including that unlikely victory in Athens. So, win Saturday. Then go win in Athens, too, if the Tigers really want to make this interesting

It’s a must-win game on Saturday for Mizzou in terms of making the CFP.

If you think this game IS winnable it’s because you know that Texas is beat up and (potentially) missing a lot of contributors. And that Arch Manning isn’t a reliable passer. And Texas is not nearly as deep as they used to be. And that the trip to Columbia is only the SECOND true road game the Longhorns have gone on this season

Beat Texas.

Gates also said after the game he feels like this team has 7 starters, and he’s right. Crowe, Jr., Tiller, Mitchell, Bryant, Trent Pierce, Jamier Jones, and Davis. If Jaylen Carey can figure himself out, I think you’ve got a solid 8 man rotation there, with Cord Stansberry and Trent Burns being a bit more deep bench, and Aidan Chronister when he’s back healthy. This is precisely how the rotation played out. There were a few extra minutes to kick around as the game was getting out of hand, but the top 7 seemed solid.

Mizzou Hoops has some DEPTH!

In 28 seasons, Smith has accumulated a 354-130-3 record, leading Mizzou to 12 consecutive conference team championships from 2012-23. His teams have also earned two NCAA team trophies, including a third-place finish in 2007 and a fourth-place finish in 2015.

An incredible era of Mizzou Wrestling comes to an end after this season with the retirement of Brian Smith. Kendric Maple will be the successor.
