Primorac Kotor appointed Vido Lompar as the new head coach. He replaces Greek Athanasios Kechagias, who guided the team for one season.
Lompar has been a member of Primorac’s coaching staff for 15 years. For most of those years, he was an assistant, including in the historic 2008/09 season, when Primorac became the European champion. Lompar had already led the Kotor-based team as the head coach once, during the 2020/21 season. He was the head coach of Budva a few years ago. He has coached Montenegro’s age-group national teams.
Primorac had a solid international season, winning a silver medal in the Premier VRL League and reaching the Euro Cup quarterfinals. In both competitions, the Kotor-based side was defeated by the top favorite, Radnicki.
Despite a good performance throughout the season, the team ended the season without a trophy in domestic competitions. It was defeated by Jadran in the final of the Montenegrin Cup. The season concluded on an unsuccessful note, as Primorac failed to qualify for the Montenegrin League final, unexpectedly losing to Budva in the semifinals. In the end, it finished 3rd in the national championships, even though it suffered only one loss during the league (to Budva in the 1st leg of the semifinals).
But even before the playoffs of the Montenegrin Championships, there were strong indications that Kechagias wouldn’t stay at Primorac after the season and that the club had begun looking for his replacement.
There will be many roster changes. Among those who won’t wear Primorac’s cap in the upcoming season are Serbian center-forward Nemanja Vico (joins A-Polo Sport Management), Savo Cetkovic, Serbian goalkeeper Dimitrije Risticevic, and Stefan Vidovic.
Two center-forwards will come from the Greek League – Olympic champion Nemanja Ubovic (arrives from Vouliagmeni) and Dusan Banicevic (from Panathinaikos).
Confirmations of those and other transfers are expected in the coming days.
