Hyderabad: Gandhi Hospital doctors on Friday got access to a heart-lung machine, which will enable them to perform advanced open-heart surgeries with improved precision and safety.

The machine was inaugurated at the department of cardiothoracic surgery by Dr Gaurav Uppal, managing director of the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC).

It was procured at a cost of ₹2.69 crore. The Livanova (Germany) Essenz Pulse HCU-3T system was ordered in the last week of April and was supplied and installed during the first week of July.

The heart-lung Machine is a critical piece of equipment used during open-heart surgeries, as it temporarily performs the functions of the heart and lungs during surgery. The addition of the new machine is expected to significantly enhance the department’s capacity to perform complex cardiac procedures.
