The Jacksonville Jaguars announced an addition to the practice squad on Tuesday, signing tight end Brenden Bates.
Bates went undrafted in 2024 out of Kentucky and originally signed with the Chicago Bears. Since then, he has spent time with Houston, Cleveland, and the New York Jets.

Over the last two seasons, Bates has appeared in nine games on offense, playing 179 total snaps. He has four receptions for 48 yards with 85% of his snaps coming as a blocker, according to PFF. Bates has played 86 career special teams snaps as well during that span.
Bates, 26, appeared in 57 games while at Kentucky. The Jaguars team site notes that while in college, Bates spent time with Liam Coen, Chris Rodriguez, and Josh Hines-Allen at various points.
On the active roster, Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, Quintin Morris, and Tanner Koziol make up the tight end room. Bates joins Hayden Rucci as the second tight end on the practice squad.
