With reports suggesting that Jr NTR has decided to put Devara 2 on the back burner and focus instead on his ambitious collaboration with Prashanth Neel tentatively titled Dragon, many in the industry believe the actor has made a smart and timely career move.

According to industry sources, NTR is reportedly waiting for the final draft of Devara 2 before taking a call on the sequel. “NTR wants to wait for the final draft of Devara 2. Otherwise, he will be concentrating fully on the Prashanth Neel project,” says a source. The insider further adds that the actor has actively participated in shaping the Neel film. “NTR suggested several corrections and held detailed discussions with Prashanth Neel to make the film more larger-than-life. Director-turned-writer Deva Katta has also been brought in to pen powerful dialogues for the action adventure,” the source reveals.

Producer Lagadapati Sridhar feels NTR’s decision reflects changing audience tastes. “Fictional dramas with period settings are slowly becoming outdated. Even the old-school narration style in Devara restricted NTR’s larger-than-life image, though he tried his best to elevate it with an intense performance. The film did make money, but today’s audiences are far more shrewd and are looking for realistic and relatable plots,” he says.

Sridhar believes the actor now needs stronger scripts and fresher storytelling to scale higher peaks. “NTR has to choose better stories and directors to raise the bar further. He should find subjects that match his charisma and also help expand his fan base across markets,” he adds.

The producer also underlined the legacy carried by the star. “His grandfather, the legendary N. T. Rama Rao, dedicated his life to Telugu cinema and audiences. He portrayed iconic characters that still resonate across generations. I sincerely hope Jr NTR continues that legacy and remains a pride of Telugu cinema,” Sridhar notes.

He further points out that Telugu stars are now enjoying unprecedented nationwide popularity. “After Prabhas and Allu Arjun, NTR is among the few Telugu actors to build a strong non-Telugu fan following. Pan-India cinema has erased language and regional barriers, proving that actors can continue doing Telugu films while earning global recognition,” he concludes.
