A man allegedly murdered his daughter and later strangled his mother to death separately in Kadapa district, police said. Police have identified the accused as C. Babu, a painter and resident of Kadapa city. He killed his 22-year-old daughter Harika at their residence on Sunday morning. Harika, a first-year B. Tech student, had reportedly been in a relationship, which the accused opposed. Police said she discontinued her studies earlier this year. At the time of the incident, Babu’s wife, who works as a sweeper at RIMS Hospital, had been on duty. Their elder son had gone to college, while the younger son is studying at a residential school. Police said after killing his daughter, Babu travelled to his village and took his mother Obulamma on a two-wheeler, reportedly saying they would visit his younger brother at Takkolu Machupalle village.
During the journey, he allegedly entered into an argument with his mother, strangled her, and left her body on the road side. Babu then proceeded to his brother’s house. Later that night, he allegedly attempted to attack his sister-in-law, accusing her of encouraging Harika’s relationship. She escaped and alerted the police. By then, the accused had fled. Police said Babu’s wife and elder son returned home on Sunday night, but had been unaware of Harika’s death, as her body had been on the ground floor while they stay upstairs. They learnt about the incident on Monday morning after receiving a phone call from relatives. The bodies of Harika and Obulamma have been shifted to RIMS Hospital in Kadapa for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Officials said unverified reports suggest that the accused may have died by suicide. Investigation is underway.
Ex-Guntur MLA Mustafa arrested in Gujarat in AP kidnap case
Police arrested former Guntur East MLA and YSRC leader Shaik Mohammad Mustafa in Vadodara on Tuesday in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a tobacco trader.
Eluru DSP D. Sravan Kumar said Mustafa has been produced before a court in Vadodara to obtain a transit warrant before being brought to Andhra Pradesh.
Providing details, the DSP said Nuzvid police had registered cases against Mustafa, his son Shaik Basheer, and others on charges of kidnapping and under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to police, Mustafa owns a tobacco warehouse in Guntur. Tobacco trader Kadimi Suryachandram of Koyyalagudem in Eluru district had been supplying tobacco procured from farmers to him for several years. Police alleged that after Mustafa reduced the purchase price, Suryachandram stopped supplying tobacco to him and began selling it to another company in Guntur.
Police said four days ago, when Suryachandram’s son Abhi, along with a driver and others, had been transporting tobacco bales from Koyyalagudem to Guntur, theur vehicle had been intercepted near Nuzvid by Mustafa’s son and others.
Based on a complaint lodged by Suryachandram, Nuzvid police registered a case and traced those involved. Police have already arrested three persons before taking Mustafa into custody in Gujarat.
Further investigations are continuing.
