Marvin Harrison Jr.’s days in Arizona could be numbered.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported Wednesday that teams “around the league are wondering whether the Arizona Cardinals could explore trading” the 2024 No. 4 pick amid yet another disappointing season.
“Harrison is extension-eligible after this season, and as of now, the Cardinals would have a hard time paying him based on what he’s shown in the league so far,” Graziano wrote.
“It’s worth watching out for a potential change-of-scenery deal in this case.”
Harrison, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison, carries an $11.25 million cap hit next season and has a team option for 2028, which is looking less and less likely to be picked up with his continued struggles on the field.
The Ohio State product has just one catch through two games this season.
During Sunday’s blowout loss to the Seahawks, Harrison didn’t have a single grab and was targeted just once by quarterback Jacoby Brissett despite playing in 74 percent of the Cardinals’ offensive snaps.
Harrison’s extremely slow start comes after an underwhelming sophomore season last year, during which he caught 41 passes for 608 yards across 12 games.
Complicating matters for Harrison is the Cardinals’ commitment to Michael Wilson, who broke out late last season and signed a three-year, $75 million extension with the franchise earlier this month.
After Sunday’s game, Arizona head coach Mike LaFleur said Harrison’s lackluster performance doesn’t have anything to do with a lack of effort.
“I don’t see it that way. I think his running style is different than some other people’s,” LaFleur said. “… If that’s people’s narrative on him, that’s fine, but I know his teammates don’t feel that way.
“It’s a long season — we’re two games in,” LaFleur continued. “There were some opportunities yesterday that I thought that either the defense dictated that it couldn’t go there or just self-inflicted wounds — it was kind of 50-50.”
