Adilabad:Revenue officials on Wednesday sealed the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Adilabad, where five infants due to smoke emanated from a fire incident. The sealing, according to officials, was done to prevent tampering of evidence before the probe committee constituted by the state government visited RIMS.
Before the ward locked and sealed, a team of revenue officials led by the Adilabad revenue divisional officer P. Jagadeeshwar Rao inspected the ward and its premises.
After the air conditioning exploded causing fire at the SNCU, the state government constituted a committee to find out the reasons that led to the fire. The committee was asked to submit its report to the government within 10 days.
The committee members are expected to arrive in Adilabad shortly and they will inspect the ward, and assess available infrastructure at RIMS, Adilabad. They will also study probable lapses, and service deficiencies being faced by patients at the hospital.
The government has proposed a new mother and child health centre at RIMS, as it plans to get post-graduate seats in the pediatric ward, radiology and psychology departments at RIMS.
The state government is also likely to establish a haematology department at RIMS, Adilabad, to provide treatment for Thalassemia and Sickle cell patients who are in large numbers in the tribal areas in the erstwhile Adilabad district ,and also to provide treatment to the patients suffering from genetic-related diseases.
