The Duchess of Sussex has shared a previously unseen image of herself and the Duke of Sussex dressed in matching penguin onesies at their engagement party.

The photograph had been printed onto paper and folded into a card from the Duke of Sussex to mark their eighth wedding anniversary.

Meghan shared the image on her Instagram stories, alongside a series of 24 images from their wedding day.

It was accompanied by a video showing the Duke walking into their kitchen carrying a lemon-elderflower cake – which was their wedding cake – adorned with candles.

He sang “Happy anniversary to Mama and Papa”, joined by their children, who were off-camera.

As they kissed, Princess Lilibet could be heard shouting “blow them, blow them” before they blew out the candles to claps and cheers.

Meghan was then shown cooing as she unveiled an anniversary gift of a small sculpted penguin from the duke, accompanied by a card addressed to “the one and only”.

She laughed as she explained to the children: “When Mama and Papa, when we got engaged we had a party with all of our friends and we said everyone wear an animal onesie, and we were penguins because they’re together for life.”

Earlier in the day, the duchess shared 24 previously unseen wedding photographs – divided into two sets – with her 4.5 million followers on Instagram, each captioned “eight years ago today…” with a sun and a moon emoji.

One set showed the happy couple in their element as they danced together to Land of 1000 Dances by Wilson Pickett during their wedding reception on May 19, 2018.

Another showed them enjoying some private moments earlier in the day, greeting guests including Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, inspecting Meghan’s bouquet and posing for portraits.

The couple were married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle before enjoying an evening reception at Frogmore House.

One of the new images shows Prince Harry delivering his wedding speech in St George’s Hall. In another photograph, he raises his glass in a toast, and in another, the newlyweds kiss, champagne in hand.

There is a bird’s-eye view of the guests, a shot of Sir Elton John performing at the reception and a picture of Harry locked in a warm embrace with Izzy May, a close friend, who is believed to be a godmother to Prince Archie, 7.

In the background of three of the photographs, as the wedding party prepared to step outside after the ceremony, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Norland nanny, can be seen.
