Mike Vrabel’s odds to stay Patriots coach nosedive with latest Dianna Russini twist

Doubts about Mike Vrabel’s future as the New England Patriots’ head coach are seemingly growing by the day.

With reports emerging about the private lives of Vrabel and former The Athletic reporter Dianna Russini, including Wednesday’s TMZ report of them spending time on a boat together when she was pregnant, sports fans are trading real money in speculation that he is not coaching come Week 1.

Kalshi has downgraded Vrabel’s future in New England, lowering his chances of being the Patriots’ coach for the season-opener from 81 percent to 67 percent, as of Thursday afternoon.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has seen his odds of being the Patriots’ head coach for Week 1 double from 13 percent to 26 percent.

An obscene amount of money has come into this market, with $373,210 wagered in just two weeks at the time of writing.

The 14-percent drop in the past 48 hours is the most significant decline since the market opened on April 23, the same day Page Six published pictures of the two canoodling in a New York City bar in 2020.

That set the story ablaze after the two attempted to defuse the situation.

On April 7, when Page Six first published the bombshell images of the two at an Arizona hotel, Vrabel and Russini each attempted to throw cold water on the story.

Vrabel called the story “laughable,” while Russini denied any wrongdoing, adding that they were on a group trip, which has yet to be proven.

That cold water turned into gasoline as more details have emerged.

Wednesday’s TMZ report included photos of signatures from the pair to rent a private boat in Tennessee in June 2021, two months before she gave birth to her oldest son, Michael.

That bit of information appears to have fueled the swift market move over the past 48 hours.

Russini has since resigned from her role with The Athletic, while the Patriots are standing by Vrabel.

Vrabel also held a press conference before the NFL Draft to announce he would miss Day 3 of the offseason’s biggest event for emergency therapy.

The NFL is not investigating the situation, calling it a private matter between the two parties.
