Hyderabad:Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced that the state government would decentralise powers and entrust greater responsibilities to district collectors to ensure faster and transparent execution of the Indiramma housing scheme.

Speaking at a review meeting with public representatives and officials of the erstwhile Nizamabad and Adilabad districts, he said the sanction and construction of Indiramma houses would be a continuous process. He made it clear that even those who had not applied earlier but submit applications now would be allotted houses if found eligible.

The minister directed district collectors to accord top priority to the scheme and conduct weekly reviews with housing officials. He noted that 3,500 houses have been sanctioned for each Assembly constituency irrespective of political affiliations and urged legislators to take special initiative to ensure that beneficiaries complete construction at the earliest.

Srinivas Reddy instructed that beneficiaries who are unable or unwilling to construct houses should inform officials so that the allotments can be reassigned to others in need. Officials were directed to release pending bills immediately to beneficiaries who had completed basement construction but had not received funds due to technical reasons, after the initial `1 lakh assistance was sanctioned.

He directed officials to complete the long-pending double-bedroom housing units left incomplete by the previous government, and to ensure provision of basic infrastructure such as drinking water, electricity and drainage. These houses, irrespective of their stage of completion, should be allotted to beneficiaries without delay. Considering the scarcity of land in urban areas, the government has permitted construction of houses under a G+1 model with sizes ranging between 400 and 600 square feet.

Srinivas Reddy said that comprehensive land surveys would provide a permanent solution to land disputes. He stressed the need for a joint survey to provide a permanent resolution for long-standing boundary disputes among revenue, forest, endowment and Waqf departments.

On the issue of ‘sada bainamas’, he said applications would be resolved at the earliest and clarified that a declaration from the purchaser alone would suffice. To expedite the process, final decision-making authority has been vested with revenue divisional officers (RDOs).

The minister also announced that tahsildar office buildings would be constructed across the state in phases, with priority given to offices currently in dilapidated condition. Additionally, modern sub-registrar offices equipped with advanced facilities will be established in every district headquarters, and collectors were instructed to prepare proposals for the same.

The meeting was attended by in-charge ministers Danasari ‘Seethakka’ Anasuya (Nizamabad), Jupally Krishna Rao (Adulabad), minister G. Vivek, government advisers P. Sudarshan Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Mohammed Shabbir Ali, along with MPs, MLCs, MLAs, revenue secretary D.S. Lokesh Kumar, housing secretary V.P. Gautam, district collectors, additional collectors and housing officials.
