Actress Rashmika Mandanna has been appointed as the National Ambassador for Promoting Cyber Safety by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This appointment follows her personal experience as a victim of a deepfake video earlier this year, which highlighted the urgent need for awareness around cyber threats.
In her new role, Rashmika will lead nationwide campaigns aimed at educating the public about various forms of cybercrime, including online fraud, deepfake videos, cyberbullying, and malicious AI-generated content. She expressed her commitment to this cause, stating, “Cybercrime is a dangerous and pervasive threat that affects individuals, businesses, and communities worldwide. Having experienced this myself, I am dedicated to raising awareness and promoting cyber safety to drive positive change. It is crucial that we come together to combat these threats and protect our digital spaces.”
The actress’s deepfake incident has sparked significant discussions about the misuse of technology, prompting many celebrities to voice their concerns. The Ministry of Home Affairs believes that Rashmika’s influence will greatly enhance efforts to foster a culture of cyber hygiene and safety across India.
Rashmika’s journey in the film industry spans over eight years, gaining widespread recognition with her role in “Pushpa: The Rise.” Her appointment as ambassador comes at a critical time when cybercrime rates are escalating, making her advocacy for cyber safety particularly relevant and impactful.
