Vijayawada: Union minister of state for rural development and communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Thursday said the Telugu Desam was not merely a political organisation but a movement founded to uplift the poor, farmers and working classes.
Participating in the Guntur East constituency Mahanadu programme organised under the leadership of local MLA Mohammad Naseer Ahmed at a convention centre in Guntur, Chandrasekhar said the TD had secured a unique position in the country as a strong regional party that had remained stable and relevant for more than four decades.
He said the ideological foundation laid during the party’s inception had strengthened it over the years. Praising Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chandrasekhar said Naidu continued to work tirelessly for the state’s development. He also lauded minister N. Lokesh for attracting large-scale investments and creating opportunities for youth.
“Nearly 25 per cent of the investments currently coming into the country are reaching Andhra Pradesh, which is a matter of pride,” he said.
Chandrasekhar said the government was taking up skill development in mission mode to generate employment opportunities for youngsters. He said extensive skill development programmes would soon be conducted in Guntur and expressed confidence that the city would witness major transformation in the coming years.
“My goal is to develop Guntur on the lines of a modern American city,” he said.
MLA Naseer Ahmed said road works worth Rs 48 crore had already been launched in the constituency and several neglected roads had been upgraded to improve connectivity. He said new construction works were being planned at the BR stadium and Rs 4.5 crore had been spent on the development of cremation grounds.
Ahmed urged party workers not to believe the “false propaganda” of YSRC leaders and work unitedly for strengthening the TD and the coalition government.
