The makers of Thudakkam have unveiled the official trailer of the much-awaited Malayalam film, offering audiences a glimpse into an emotional thriller that gradually spirals into darker territory. Directed by 2018-fame Jude Anthany Joseph, the film marks the acting debut of Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The film is slated to hit theatres on August 7.

Thudakkam trailer sets the stage for an emotional mystery

The trailer introduces Vismaya as Meenu, a cheerful, carefree college student juggling exams and the everyday moments of youth. However, the light-hearted tone does not last long. As the narrative unfolds, Meenu and her family find themselves confronting the consequences of a long-buried mistake that resurfaces with devastating consequences. Without giving away too much, the trailer teases a story that combines emotional family dynamics with mystery, tension and action, hinting at a thriller driven as much by personal relationships as by suspense.

Jude Anthany Joseph, who earned widespread acclaim for the blockbuster 2018, appears to be moving away from large-scale spectacle to tell a more intimate yet equally gripping story. Ahead of the release, the filmmaker described Thudakkam as “2 hours, 19 minutes and 35 seconds of pure family drama and thriller,” raising expectations for a film that balances emotion with edge-of-the-seat storytelling.

An ensemble cast backs Vismaya’s debut

While Vismaya shoulders the central role, Thudakkam boasts an impressive supporting cast. Mohanlal also features in the film alongside Aashish Joe Antony, Sai Kumar, Bobby Kurian, Manoj K. Jayan, Ganesh Kumar, Aswin, Essa, Kottayam Ramesh, Jaya Kurup and Jaffar Idukki. Their presence suggests that the film’s emotional core extends beyond Meenu’s journey, with the trailer hinting at a family caught in circumstances beyond its control.

The screenplay has been penned by Jude Anthany Joseph along with Linish Nellikkal and Akhil Krishna. Behind the camera, the film brings together an accomplished technical team. Jakes Bejoy has composed the music, while Akhil George and Jomon T. John ISC handle cinematography, with Sudeep Elamon serving as additional cinematographer. Chaman Chakko edits the film, Santhosh Raman oversees production design, and the action sequences have been choreographed by Yannick Ben and Stunt Silva.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, Thudakkam has generated considerable curiosity ever since it was announced as Vismaya Mohanlal’s launch vehicle. Over the past year, Vismaya has also spoken about preparing extensively for the role, including undergoing a physical transformation through Muay Thai as part of her preparation for her acting debut.

The newly released trailer suggests that Thudakkam is not positioning itself as a conventional star-kid debut. Instead, it promises an emotionally layered thriller where mystery, family bonds and buried secrets collide. Whether Vismaya can leave a lasting mark with her first outing remains to be seen, but the trailer has certainly succeeded in building intrigue ahead of the film’s theatrical release on August 7.
