Cody Bellinger‘s banner defensive season with the New York Yankees just got even better. Less than a week after winning a Gold Glove, the Yankees outfielder has been named the 2026 American League Platinum Glove Award winner.

Rawlings announced the honor on Friday, with Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong taking home the National League Platinum Glove. The award goes to the best overall defensive player in each league, chosen from the pool of Gold Glove winners.

Bellinger earned his spot in that group by winning the AL Gold Glove in left field on Nov. 1. It was the second Gold Glove of his career and his first since 2019, when he won it as a right fielder with the Los Angeles Dodgers during his National League MVP season.

The Platinum Glove recognition comes as no surprise. Bellinger was arguably the best defensive left fielder in baseball this season, racking up 21 Defensive Runs Saved. That was well ahead of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio, who had 13 and won the NL Gold Glove at the position. Bellinger also ranked above the 90th percentile in both Fielding Run Value and Outs Above Average.

The Yankees made sure to celebrate his Gold Glove win earlier in the week. “Good as Gold. Congratulations on your 2nd career @RawlingsSports Gold Glove, Belli!” the team wrote on X.

Bellinger was productive at the plate as well, hitting .264 with 17 home runs, 73 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and a .768 OPS in 132 games. He also took home All-Star Game MVP honors in July after delivering a two-run single in the AL’s 4-0 win.

The honors cap a strong second season in pinstripes for the 31-year-old, who re-signed with New York in January on a five-year, $162.5 million contract. The deal includes opt-outs after the second and third seasons, as well as a full no-trade clause.

Unfortunately for him and the Yankees, the season did not end the way they had hoped. New York was swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Division Series.

Still, Bellinger has given the Yankees plenty to look forward to. With his glove and bat both in top form, he should remain a key piece as New York looks to bounce back in 2027.
